SPECIFICATION 1672 – STANDARD SERIES VDA/DF LAKESIDE COOLING TOWERS 1.0 GENERAL: The cooling tower is provided standard ex works as manufactured by Lakeside Cooling Towers (Australasia) Pty Ltd. New materials are used throughout. For satisfactory service it is imperative to ensure that the cooling tower is installed level and that both circulating water and air contain no harmful substances which are incompatible with the proper and effective long term life of the cooling tower. This specification is to be read in conjunction with and subject to the written Conditions of Sale and Use issued by Lakeside Cooling Towers (Australasia) Pty Ltd. 2.0 COOLING CAPACITY: The cooling tower is designed to cool not less than 60 litres of water per cell in optimum conditions and providing there are no restrictions or limitations of air to, through and from the cooling tower. 3.0 DESIGN: The cooling tower is of cross flow design with full fill media, horizontal air inlets, treated timber fill media induced mechanical draft, vertical air discharge, gravity distribution of the water employing either one or more fans. 4.0 CONSTRUCTION: The framework is fabricated from pinus radiata of Select Engineering Grade 1600f designed to carry the mechanical equipment, water in the hot water basin, live and wind loads. Operational and wind loads up to 30 PSF or 146.39 kg/m2 of protected area can be carried in any horizontal direction. All joints are through bolted, no nailing is employed, and all diagonals transmit wind loads to the anchorage. 5.0 CASING: The casing is 8oz thick flame-retardant single sheathed horizontal lapped solid grey fibreglass UV stabilised sheets. Access panel in each wall secured with stainless steel screws and neoprene washers. The air inlet louvres are 10-oz thick corrugated fibreglass. 6.0 FAN CYLINDER, FAN DECK AND LADDER: Fibreglass bell mouth fan cylinder UV stabilised. Fan deck is fabricated from pinus radiata plywood. Ladder and handrails are hot dipped galvanised after fabrication as to Standards Australia. 7.0 UNITIZED STEEL TO SUPPORT MECHANICAL EQUIPMENT: Welded structural steel and hot dipped galvanised after fabrication, all bolts, nuts and washers are 316# stainless steel. 8.0 HOT WATER BASIN: The standard tower with either fan arrangement is provided with single open hot water basin over each bank of fill media. Water falls by gravity through plastic metering orifices. Basin floor is 12-mm plywood to SAA Code AS 087 type A bond with pinus radiata sides, end and diffusion deck. The suggested hot water piping and flow control valve layout is shown only as a guide to provide assistance for engineering design. 9.0 COLD WATER BASIN: The standard tower with either fan arrangement is normally provided without a basin to our clients' concrete basin arrangement. 10.0 FILL MEDIA: Splash pack type employing pressure treated splash slats decks supported by stainless steel mesh. Fill media packs are wholly assembled without the use of nails. Special LCT design lathes are available for specific process requirements. 11.0 DRIFT ELIMINATORS: UV stabilised PVC and manufactured to conform with ASNZ 3666 designed to limit drift loss to .02% of the total water being circulated. 12.0 PRESERVATIVE TIMBER TREATMENT: Timber and plywood is treated after fabrication with a water borne preservative in accordance with SAA Code AS0113 and CTI standards H6. 13.0 FANS: Induced draft axial flow fan of aerofoil section adjustable pitch. Cast aluminium blades and hub, coated with two-part epoxy paint. Stainless steel mesh guard protects fan. A flat plenum wall is supplied to direct the airflow through the fill media closest to each fan. An access panel is provided in the plenum wall. 14.0 ELECTRIC MOTORS: Foot mounted single speed TEFC weatherproofed IP56 rated, 3 phase 50 Hz cycle 415 volt 4 pole. 15.0 DRIVE SHAFTS: Drive shaft is fabricated from a fibreglass composite and provided with a non lubricated flexible coupling. 16.0 GEARBOX: Close grained cast iron housing. Timken tapered roller bearings; nickel chrome steel right angle bevel gears caseharden. Splash and partial immersion lubricated and provided with an oil sight glass. 17.0 HARDWARE: Stainless steel bolts, nuts, washer’s nails and wood screws. Anchor mounts are also stainless steel or HDG cast iron. 18.0 PROTECTIVE COATINGS: All steel parts not otherwise mentioned are HDG after fabrication to all code requirements. 19.0 CONSTRUCTION AND PERFORMANCE: In accordance with the drawings and information provided. It is the purchaser’s responsibility to ensure that the equipment conforms in every respect with any tender specifications binding upon or accepted by the purchaser. No responsibility therefore or arising therefrom is accepted by Lakeside Cooling Towers (Australasia) Pty Ltd. 20.0 SITING OF THE COOLING TOWER: The cooling tower is designed to operate effectively when so sited as to enable it to have an uninhibited flow of clean air of the designed condition and volume to, through and from it. The siting of the cooling tower is the entire responsibility of the purchaser. Lakeside Cooling Towers (Australasia) Pty Ltd shall have no liability or responsibility for incorrect siting or for siting carried out otherwise than in accordance with its specific advice. Advice as to siting of the cooling tower will be made available to the purchaser if requested for a reasonable fee. 21.0 QUALITY AND PERFORMANCE IMPROVEMENT: In line with continual development, this specification and all dimensions are subject to change without notice. 22.0 VIBRATION AND SOUND LEVELS: No levels are specified or guaranteed in this specification. Standard sound criteria are available on request for the cooling tower manufactured as standard by Lakeside Cooling Tower (Australasia) Pty Ltd. 23.0 OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS: Three copies are supplied as standard. Additional copies are extra on request. 24.0 SPARE PARTS: Available on request from all States of Australia. 25.0 EXCLUSIONS: Only those items detailed in this specification will be supplied with standard model cooling tower. 26.0 ILLUSTRATIVE BROCHURE: Issued for information and illustrative purposes only.
